MFA website plays an important role in China’s public diplomacy as an official information release platform for China’s diplomatic policies and activities. Based on the author’s experience in MFA website translation, this thesis takes diplomatic news from MFA Top News section as its subject, and analyzes its translation both as a process and a product in the context of China’s public diplomacy. Based on results from corpus analysis, text comparison and questionnaires, the thesis probes into the macro and micro norms of translation for MFA Top News. The thesis draws the conclusion that excessive use of literal translation is not conductive to China’s public diplomacy. In the translation of MFA Top News, translators who take national images and interests as the direction, should edit the news headlines, leads, body structure and background of source texts in pursuit of information accuracy, audience acceptance and publicity guidance. It is believed that trans-edited MFA news can help foreign audiences understand and accept China in a better way in the context that major countries are vying for discourse power and the myth of “China threat” has filled the air in the international realm.
