A Report On Chinese-english Translation Of Standard Laboratory Operating Procedures Of DNS-china

With the development of globalization, more and more western pharmaceutical companies have extended their business to China. As the communication bridge between Chinese and English readers in the medical profession, medical translation plays an indispensable role in the global cooperation. Medical English, as an important branch of EST(English for Science and Technology), has its own stylistic features. Medical English is highly professional and the vocabulary, which is usually long and complex, is difficult to pronounce and spell. Futhermore, the sentences of medical English are also complicated. All of these are great challenges for the translator.In this report, the author uses Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory to guide the translation of Standard Laboratory Operating Procedures of DNS-China(Dart Neuro Science). The author analyzes how the Functional Equivalence Theory could be used to solve the translation problems caused by the Chinese-English differences. It is expected that this research will provide some novel insights in tackling medical Chinese-English translation. In the thesis, the author analyzes the application of Functional Equivalence Theory to guiding the translation task from vocabulary level to sentence level, which the author hopes will provide some help for the people working in the biomedical area and those who have to work with laboratory animals.
