Translator is the most energetic factor in the translation. Translator’s subjectivity plays a key role in both understanding the original text and recreating the translated text. Traditional translation theories hold that the author of the original text enjoys the authorized status. However, translator, as an invisible man, is affiliated to the author. When “cultural turn” took place in the west countries, translation scholars and translation schools both at home and abroad re-evaluated translator’s status, and then his status was confirmed. Translator’s subjectivity refers to translator’s initiatives reflected in the translation activities in the condition that translator must respect the author and realize its purpose. Translator’s subjectivity is a reflection of translator’s life, world value and aesthetics feelings. The thesis will study translator’s subjectivty from the perspective of harmonious transaltion. The source of harmonious translation is Chinese traditional philosophy and Chinese traditional translation theories. “Golden Mean” thought is the main stream in Chinese traditional philosophical history, which insists that appropriateness is suitable for everything under the heaven, so the “Golden Mean” thought is also applied to the Chinese traditional translation thoughts. The proper play of translator’s subjectivity is manifestated in the three stages of harmonious translation: understanding the original, transferring the original information and expressing the target language. When the translator understands the origianl text, he creates a new harizon by fusing two original horizons to harmonize the relation between author and himself. When translator transfers the original information into the translation, he plays adaptation and addition to harmonize the relation between original text and target text. When translator expresses the the target text, he considers reader’s expectation to harmonize the relation between translation and target reader. In the last, this thesis will expound the unique features of translator’s subjectivity in the harmonious translation after analysing it. The aim of this thesis is to guide the translator to play his subjectivity in a proper way in the process of making the harmonious translation...
