With the rapid development of the information technology and electronics industry, product launch event has become a popular platform for the electronic companies to introduce the information of the products. Especially those from the leading companies could always arouse great attention from media and the public. As the indispensable element of product launch events, the speech delivered by the presenters on the product launch event also contributes to the attaining of the purposes of this means of public relations.The concept of presupposition was first put forward in 1892 in the field of philosophy and later came into linguistics field. With the deepening of the researches on presupposition, scholars classified presuppositions into different categories and put forward the concept of “presupposition trigger” which serves as a starting point for the quantitative analysis on the types of presuppositions. Besides, researchers also found that pragmatic presupposition has its special function in communication.This thesis aims to study the pragmatic presupposition of the speech of rising smart electronics launch event by both qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. This corpus-based study chooses speeches on the product launch events from 3 leading electronic companies in the world as subject, and the corpus contains over 50,000 words. The frequency and distribution of different types of pragmatic presuppositions in the speech are obtained by AntConc and Microsoft Excel. On the basis of the analysis of the figures, 5 functions of pragmatic presupposition in the speech of rising smart electronics launch event are summarized which are strengthening coherence and cohesion, being informative, focusing information, attaining language economy, causing resonance and persuasion. The findings of this study are intended to give presenters in electronic industry or product-oriented company suggestions on the using of pragmatic presuppositions during speeches or product demonstrations.
