As aleaderwriter anda legendofpost-modernliterature in Italy andthe world, Italo Calvino wrote a large number of novels in approximate 40 years and accumulated richexperience onthe writing theory and practicefrom his continuous writing. He effectively made a methodology construction of the novelstructure, content,narrativetechniques and othernovelsissues, which he flexibly used in the specificcreation.Calvino’s post-modernfictionsgreatlyexpanded the spaceandpossibilities of narration,and made an outstanding contribution for the library of the world. This paperspecifically analyzesthe post-modern features of Calvino’s fictitious narrationwith his theory, in a case study of If on a winter’s night a traveler. Thecontents are organized as follows:The introduction partreviewsboth the domestic translation and introduction of Calvino’s works,and the overseas and domestic research status, so that the research objectives and value would be established.The first chapter introduces Calvinoand his works, dates backthe evolutionprocess of writing style in his twocreating stages, andplaces Calvinoin postmodern contexttooverallgrasp hispostmodernnarrativefeatures.The second chapter is the specific discussion and analysis ofpostmodern theoryon writing, which focuses on his three obvious postmodern thoughts: Open Encyclopedia,Crystal Structure and Light Narration. Based on the guidance of the theory to Calvino’s numerous writing, the analyses would show themotive force of his postmodernthoughts of writing.The third chapteranalyzes Calvino’s postmodern features by meticulously studying the representativetext If on a winter’s night a traveler. This part will mainly start from the time-space construction and view switching of Crystal Structure, and the specificnarrativestrategiestwoaspects.The fourth chaptersummarizes the postmodern spiritsin Calvino’s fictions. It will overall assess Calvino’s postmodernnarration from the theme value of If on a winter’s night a traveler, and thenreflect on postmodernism.In short, this thesis attempts to explore the postmodernfeatures of Calvino’s fictitious narration from his fiction theory and practice, andviewthevalue of both form and content of Calvino’s postmodern fiction by specific analysis.
