There is divergence between self-perception and social perception. The perception of bias is one of the main areas. People see themselves as less susceptible to bias than others, and rate the perception and judgement of themselves as objective, though the behaviors do show some kind of bias. Researchers named this divergence on the perception of bias as “bias blind spot”, with respect to “visual blind spot”. The bias blind spot likely has deep roots, but it also causes problems. It can Foster conflict, discrimination, lapses in ethics, and barriers to self-knowledge and social intimacy. An understanding of it sheds light on theoretical concerns involving the self-enhancement, na?ve realism and the introspection illusion. Introspection illusion refers that people often rely on conscious introspections in the process of judgement、decision-making、 perception, etc., while assess others based on the behaviors information. Loads of researches suggested that bias didn’t leave conscious traces. As a result of that, over-valuing of personal introspections when perceiving the bias may lead to prejudice. Collectivism is the main culture in China versus individualism of the west countries. We encourages people to put ourselves in others’ shoes. The special and deep-root collectivism do have great influence on our people’s thoughts and behaviors. This research mainly explores the existence of bias blind spot in China, and the introspection illusion as a source of bias blind spot. This research explores the bias blind spot and the introspection illusion as a source from three experimental studies. All three studies are between-subject design in the aspect of self-report, with questioners and E-prime procedures. Study 1 provides 8 bias and 2 non-bias for the subjects to rate. One of the group rate themselves’ susceptibility of the 8bias and 2 non-bias and the other rate average university students. All subjects reports the strategies used in the process of assessment. Subjects of study 2 report the validity of a so called social intelligence test performed earlier, and also write down the thoughts going through their mind. High scores and low scores are random assigned to the subjects. Then, two group of observers rate the fairness of these subjects. One group also read the introspection of those subjects and the other one only access to the scores and ratings. Study 3 goes on based on the conclusions of study 1. Two group of students read one article about science or the limitation of introspection, then rate 8 bias followed. The conclusions are Followed: 1. People do show bias blind spot in China. People tend to recognize the operation of bias in others, except when that bias is their own.2. There’re differences in two aspects: 1) people don’t show bias blind spot on the “better-average bias”; 2) the rating of fundamental attribution error、cognitive dissonance、intergroup-outgroup bias on both themselves and peers is higher than others bias type;3. People show introspection illusion when rating the susceptibility of all eight bias, which means introspecting when rating themselves, while observing actions when rating peers.4. The definition of bias contain more introspection information in China, while behaviors in west countries.5. Under the conditions of knowing the limitation of unconsciousness and introspection, people can be free of bias blind spot in some degree. The education has a significant positive impact on the male, while gentle on the female.
