As the deep research of individual socialization and the rising research of psychological education, the study of emotion regulation becomes more and more important, and it extends gradually from developmental psychology to personality psychology, education psychology, halth psychology, etc, and becomes a hot direction of the study of contemporary psychology. The study between music and emotion attract many scholars and experts to discuss.Music could not only express the composer’s emotion but also affect the listener’s emotional response, which plays an important role in our daily life. The regulation of music on mood depends on the music modality itself, and it has been found that the speed of music is an important factor to affect emotion. However, the empirical research that music regulates bad emotions on college students’ daily life is less recently. The College students are important group of society, whose Mental health problems become increasingly important research topic, while every student individual has a different personality traits, and neuroticism and extraversion is supposed to be a typical emotional style of personality traits, which can also affect individual’s emotional response on music. Therefore, combining music speed and personality, taking high neuroticism and extroversion personality of college students as subjects, using Empirical studies of the effect of factors on the participants mood music speed and taking music material familiarity into consideration, this paper explored the influence to high neuroticism and extroversion personality of college students’ emotion regulation from music material speed and familiarity. This paper confirm the music materials and experiment subjects throughpreliminary experiments, the music materials had been divided into speediness/familiarity, speediness/unfamiliarity and slow based on the familiarity and speed, and the subjects had been picked up through filling the five personality questionnaire.Experiment one is designed as two factors mixed experimental. The independent variables could be divided into fast music and slow music based on the speed of music, high neurotic and high extraverted based on personality type, and the variable between subjects is personality type, and dependent variables are emotional valence and emotional arousal of the subjects. By sing SPSS 16.0 statistical software for data analysis and 2 x 2 repeated measurement equation analysis(ANOVA) to analyse the value of experiment, it could be concluded as follows:(1) Subjects’ positive emotions can be induced by fast music and subjects’ negative emotions can be induced by slow music.(2) High extraverted subjects would easily produce corrective emotional response when listening to fast music material and high neuroticism subjects would easily produce negative emotional responses when listening to slow music material.Experiment two is also designed as two factors mixed experimental. It took familiarity and unfamiliarity based on the familiarity to music materials of subjects and high neurotic and high outward based on personality type as independent variables, the variable between subjects as personality type, familiarity to music materials as internal variable, motional valence and emotional arousal of the subjects as dependent variables.Firstly, we choose slow music induce subjects of mood, and let them rate in the emotional valence and arousal dimension. Secondly, we broadcast speediness/familiarity and speediness/unfamiliarity music material to high neuroticism and high extraverted subjects at random, and let them rate in the emotional valence and arousal dimension too. Thirdly, by using SPSS 16.0 statistical software for data analysis to analyse the value of experiment, it could be concluded as follows:(1) It is significant that fast music could adjust the emotion of high neurotic subjects and high extraverted subjects.(2) High neurotic subjects have more negative emotion than high extraverted subjects after induced into negative emotions. The change of the two personality types emotions is significant through being adjusted by fast music, and the change of high neurotic subjects is more significant.(3) No matter the reject is high neurotic or high extraverted, the effect is moresignificant by using fast familiar music to adjust emotions than fast unfamiliar music. The conclusion of this paper is as follows:(1) Fast music can induce both high neuroticism and high extraversion subjects positive emotions. High extraverted subjects would easily produce corrective emotional response, and high neuroticism subjects would easily produce negative emotional responses.(2) The emotional adjustment of fast music is significant for both subjects, while the emotion regulation effect of high extraversion subjects is more significant than neurotic subjects.(3) No matter the reject is high neurotic or high extraverted, the effect is more significant by using fast familiar music to adjust emotions than fast unfamiliar music. These conclusions can help college students with different personality to regulate emotion well through listening to music in daily study life, and promote the development of college students’ mental health.
