With the development of globalization, more and more foreign teachers participate in the English teaching of our country, especially the teaching of listening and speaking courses at the university level. Experts and scholars at home and abroad have conducted a large number of studies on the native English-speaking teachers in English teaching, and their teaching advantages are affirmed. But the study on the influences foreign teachers on students’ English learning motivation is very scarce.Learning motivation is very important, and it is considered to be one of the crucial factors that influence students’ success in English learning. Therefore, in order to improve the teaching quality of foreign teachers and optimize the students’ English learning, it is necessary to study the influence of foreign teachers on students’ English learning motivation.Based on the previous research on learning motivation and foreign teachers’ teaching, also consulting Gao Yihong’s related studies on English learning motivation,the questionnaire of this research which focuses on the influence of foreign teachers is designed. Through the method of questionnaire, this paper undertakes an objective analysis on the overall situation of non-English major students’ learning motivation types, similarities and differences between the motivation of students who take the listening and speaking courses taught by foreign teachers and not, as well as the motivation differences of different level students taught by foreign teachers.Furthermore, via interviewing students and foreign teachers, the influence of foreign teachers’ teaching on students’ English learning motivation is further explored so as to provide inspiration for foreign teachers’ teaching.Through quantitative analysis of the professional statistical software SPSS18.0,the results of the study show that the non-English major students’ English learning motivations consist of seven types, namely, intrinsic interest, external promotion,learning situation, practical instrument, social responsibility, communication application, individual development, in which practical instrument motivation is the strongest and the communication application motivation is the weakest. The seven types learning motivation of students taught by foreign teachers are all higher than those of the students who have not been taught by the foreign teachers, in which the differences of external promotion, social responsibility and communication application have reached the significant level. For different level students taught by foreign teachers,the means of motivation factors of higher level students are all biggerthan or equal to that of lower level students except the intrinsic interest motivation,among which the practical instruments has arrived at the level of significance. The results of the research confirm that foreign teachers have positive influences on the learning motivation of non-English major students.In the end, according to the survey results and interviews with students and foreign teachers, this paper puts forward some suggestions on how to improve students’ learning motivation in English classroom teaching.
