Since the1970s, the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB) emerged the phenomenon of "Democratic socialism". The Communist Party of Great Britain had insisted the "British road to socialism" political program, but its lack of theoretical foundation and ideological adaptability in the political struggle leaded its failure to establish a communist regime in Britain. Since being caught to the "Democratic socialism", Communist Party of Great Britain faced an organizational structure splitting and its members withdrew from the party in succession, which resulted in its ultimate demise. The Communist Party of Great Britain was keen on the political lines in the1970s and had gradually lost the support of the working class. Since1960s it did not play a guiding role of the proletarian party in a series of new social movements such as the anti-nuclear movement, the women liberation movement, the anti-racist movement and the anti-colonial movement, whereas ran into a tendency of "Democratic socialism" in the democracy progressive activism which had been up to twenty years. This also brought Thatcherism, a representative of the neo-liberalism’s revival. The British socialist movement fell into a further recession. We re-recognize the difficulties the Communist Party of Great Britain faced in its struggle from three levels:the special national character, the features of capitalism and the special theory of socialism of British, which includes a comprehensive factor built by the domestic political and economic structure, international political environment and the party’s self-construction. And this brought CPGB to the "Democratic socialism". The "Democratic socialism" made the British Communist Party lost the nature as a proletarian party and weakened its political power, because of which the party finally was forced to transform into the Social Democratic Party. Although in1992the Communist Party of Britain (Morning Star faction) re-raised the banner of socialism, communism had never become the British mainstream political thought. However, despite of the Communist Party of Britain’s "Democratic socialism", the new British Marxist still had a significant impact on Western Marxism. The "Democratic socialism" showed a political dilemma of all the communist parties in advanced capitalist countries, and a construction of a scientific theory is the most important issue in today’s party building. Communist Party of China, as the only successful communist party in the21st century, maintains its advancement and purity by developing a theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics. British Communist Party of Britain needs to localize the Marxism, and use Marxism to solve practical problems of British politics, only by which it can build a political foundation for itself and therefore realize the road to socialism in Britain.
