Value clarification theory is one of moral theories in20th century of American. It thinksthat values derive from the personal experience of life and is a personal thing.Values isobtained by the evaluation process rather than indoctrination of teachers.Although the theoryhas inherent defect and its evaluation is also mixed,regardless of its good and bad aspects,ithas some enlightenment to values education of China.On the domestic research, regardless ofits praises or criticism mostly views concentrated in its early theoretical perspective, the lackof attention to its late development.Therefore,there is no a certain integrity of its presentationor evaluation.Therefore,the study is tried to clarify the theory completely anddialectically,absorbed strong points and avoided shortcomings,so as to learn from it for ourvalues education.Following the idea,This paper is divided into four parts.The first part writes the generaltheory of Value Clarification,which discusses the social background, ideological origins, thebasic principles of the theory,as well as its decline with the development of the times,becauseof their theoretical flaws.The second part is the value clarification theorists’self-justification.For e accused of values clarification,theorists had maked clarified to attemptto further clarify the misunderstanding of values clarification,although they can not reversethe trend of the times.The third part is rethinking of value clarification.That is making adialectical understanding,recognizing its flaws and affirming its positive aspects.Onlydialectical and complete understanding, it may have the correct reference of the theory.Thefourth part is to undertake the implications for theory and practice of our valueseducation.Firstly,values education correctly handles the relationship between tradition andmodernity.Secondly,it is needed to insist the core values education under the background ofdiversify.Thirdly,values education should focus on the people themselves, highlighting thehumane care.Finally,values education should blend with life, highlighting the attractivenessand charm of values education.
