In recent years, environmantal protection in the field of international trade has become the focus of the global world and the international community’s attention. There are the reasons. One is that, endangered animals and plants, fragile ecological chain, natural environmental deterioration and other issues are becoming more and more prominent. Another one is that, these issues have ’transnational’factors, and international trade is one of the main causes, so these problems need common concern of the international community. In such a background, the research of international law’s coordination of international trade and environmental protection is not only in line with the international community’s needs of environmental protection and survival and develpoment, but also seeking for a more harmonious developping way of man and nature.In order to achieve this purpose, this thesis will expand multidimensional research from economy, politics, history, law and so on. Firstly, the paper describes objectively the conflicts of international trade and environmental protection in the current situation and the conflicts embodied in international trade disputes and in between multilateral trading system and multilateral environmental agreements. Secondly, the paper will explore theoretical and practical causes of the conflicts in all directions like economic and political, historical and legal perspectives. Again, the paper will reveal the necessity of reconciling international trade and environmental protection and the importance of international law machanism in coordinating the relationgship. And it tries to justify the possibility and the legal basis of the harmonious development of international trade and environmental protection by international law cases. Finally, on the basis of this, the paper will attempt to find out countermeasures to coordinate the relationship between international trade and environmental protection by means of the legal principle of international law. It strives to form a coordination scheme with complete logic and comprehensive content, from principle to rule, from legislation to enforcement, to promote harmonious development of international trade and the world’s environmental protection.The thesis holds the view that international trade and environmental protection must be and can be coordinated developped. In the path to international law’s coordination, some specific ways and measures, such as improving the operation of international law and uniting international organizations, can be taken to achieve the above purpose.
