In April 1882, the Beiyang Minister Li Hongzhang persuaded the Korea and the United States to sign "the Korean-American Treaty of 1882 ". The Korea signed other treaties with the West. In June, "Imo Revolt" created chaos in Korea. Since the rebel army attacked the Japanese Embassy, so the Japanese troops went immediately to Korea. As soon as Zhang Shusheng received the information, he quickly sent troops to Korea to repress the chaos and take Li Xiaying to Tianjin. Then the Qing troops repressed the rebel army and restored the Korean Council. It was the first time in modern Chinese to intervene the vassal state’s internal affairs, which directly caused the Chinese Vassal policy on Korea to implement and promoted the process of the essence between Qing Dynasty and Korea. It was an important node in the whole process of the modern transformation of China-Korean relations.Although academic research for this event has made many achievements, there is not enough attention to be paid on Zhang Shusheng, who decided directly to the revolt and sent troops to oppress the rebellion. The article is designed to present how Zhang Shusheng to deal with Korean "Imo Revolt" at the specific historical moment. In March, just as the smooth processing of signing of "the Korean-American Treaty of 1882", Li Hongzhang had to leave because his mother was dead. Zhang Shusheng began to act as the Zhili Viceroy and Beiyang Minister. On June 18, Zhang Shusheng got the information that military revolt broke out in Korea from Li Shuchang who was the ambassador to Japan.Depending on multi-intelligence,Zhang Shusheng advocated that Qing court shoud send troops to oppress the rebellion, and got permission. Then Zhang Shusheng began to deploy the troop to Korea and successfully trapped Li Xiaying and taken him to Tianjin, and restored the Korean Council. In the processing of dealing with the Korean "Imo Revolt" in 1882, Zhang Shusheng took measures to repress the chaos and took Li Xiaying to Tianjin. And these measures broked the balance which formulated by Li Hongzhang, meanwhile destroyed the traditional concept of the independent country between China and Korean, and promoted China-Korean traditional vassal relations towards substance.
