The Party style is the manifestation of Marxist world outlook in action as well as an important embodiment of the Party’s nature, purpose, creed and path. Chen Yun once said, “The issue of Party style relates to survival of the Party”. In the struggle history of the proletariat, Engels and Lenin repeatedly used the term “Party style”. In Chinese Communist Party(CCP), Mao Zedong first cited the concept of “Party style”. On April 24, 1945, Mao Zedong made a centralized and direct generalization of content of Party style in the article “On Coalition Government”, namely, “CCP equipped with Marxist-Leninist thoughts and theories creates new working styles among Chinese people, i.e. the style of combining theory and practice, the style of being closely linked with the masses as well as the style of self-criticism”. In the Second Plenary Session of the Seventh National Congress, standing on the overall situation of governing and rejuvenating the country, Mao Zedong fully considered the forthcoming and possible states of development in and out of the Party and proposed the important thought of “Two Musts”, requiring all Party members must continuously maintain the fine style of modesty and prudency, freedom from arrogance and impetuosity, and must adhere the style of thrifty and perseverance. When leaving for Beijing from Xibaipo, Mao Zedong was not dizzy with forthcoming victory, but vividly described this trip as “taking an exam in Beijing”, and warned that the whole Party must keep a high degree of responsibility and vigilance. These fine styles formed during the revolution not only gathered up our Party in time of war, built the bridge of keeping one mind between army and people and defeating the enemy, but also became an important guarantee of tightening relations between the Party and the masses and jointly carrying out political and economic construction. From the founding of New China in 1949 to the opening of Eighth CPC National Congress in 1956 was a period of development and exploration of style construction in the early stage of governance by CPC. The Party Central Committee enhanced and improved the Party’s style construction from five aspects, i.e. “adhering to combination of theory and practice and opposing subjectivism”, “adhering to close links with the masses and opposing bureaucratism”, “adhering to criticism and self-criticism and promoting inner-Party democracy”, “adhering to ‘Two Musts’ and keeping political character”, and “building supervision and inspection authorities and resolutely opposing corruption”. This paper is divided into three parts: the first part is exploring the background of strengthening style construction by the Party in the early years of New China; the second part is focusing on the study of content of strengthening style construction by the Party, and third part is exploring the experience and inspiration of strengthening style construction by the Party in the early years of New China from four angles, respectively “adhering to seeking truth from facts and promoting the realistic and pragmatic style”, “adhering to seeking truth from facts and promoting the spirit of governance for the people”, “adhering to democratic centralism and maintaining Party unity”, and “adhering to honesty and cleanness, and opposing hedonism”.
