A Research Of Public Diplomacy In The Spring And Autumn Warring States Period

The spring and autumn warring states period in ancient China is known as the "axial age" of human civilization. The states of Zhou Dynasty became independent countries. The constantly fight, merger and alliance between them make the international relations in this period seemingly chaotic but has inextricably linkage. In this context, countries take the diplomatic ideology and foreign policies seriously based on the situation, give full play to the creativity, and also conducted active practice. These make the spring and autumn warring states period become a great era blooming diplomatic wisdom. And there are a large number of it involved public diplomacy.This study did the analysis based on the assumption that public diplomacy thought and practice in the spring and autumn warring states period existed and are still has useful influence from both function and meaning perspective for today. Then discussed mainly about finding the content characteristic of the public diplomacy thought and practice in the spring and autumn warring states period; and also how do they associated with today’s public diplomacy theory, etc. The study has six parts. The introduction elaborated the research questions, research object, research background, research significance, research methods and contents. The first chapter reviewed the development of theory in public diplomacy with the old and new pattern dispute and also the principles and characteristics in the practice. The second chapter mainly summarized the background situation of spring and autumn warring states period between countries and all the major relevant thought in Diplomacy. The third chapter discovered and extracted the essence thought and practice of public diplomacy in spring and autumn warring states period. In the fourth chapter, combine with the analysis of today’s public diplomacy development and situation in China development, this study elaborated the influence and enlightenment of spring and autumn warring states period’s public diplomacy to today’s public diplomacy. Finally, the fifth chapter summarized the conclusion, significance of the whole research and also discussed about the possible continue research direction in the future.The study found that in the spring and autumn warring states period there have been a characteristic of public diplomacy thought and wide variety of practice. And on this basis, further discussed come to a conclusion:the four main thought of public diplomacy in spring and autumn warring states period and its attention on activity form, women and elite individual and cultural implications has important enlightenment and reference influence regarding of today’s theory construction and practice of China’s public diplomacy with Chinese characteristics.
