The word "mass" in the political context of China today, has been frequently used by the public, however, no one knows the real source of this word and the political complexion it contained. In fact, in the ancient China and the Occident, no one used the concept "mass" as the appellation of the broad masses of the people. Instead, in each of the different ages, all have a word that matched with the social situation of the time to describe the group called the masses. The word "mass" of the ancient only had literal meaning, referred to the majority of people that getting together and did not specifically referred to certain political role in the society. The masses had been considered to be the mob, and a group that is blind and has no consciousness. Until the Marxist historical materialism was generated, the masses became recognized and were defined as the main part that propels the historical events. Under the guidance of Marxist mass view, Chinese Communist Party has created mass line with Chinese characteristics by combining Marxist mass view with China’s concrete practice. This line has pushed the Chinese characteristic socialism business forward in different periods.
