Chinese people regard food as their heaven, then food brings food container. Food container, with its regional and ethnic characteristics, stands for a significant tradition attached to ethnic food tradition, in consequence it is a window to get to know the traditional culture.Shangri-La (Di qing autonomous Prefecture) locates itself on the border area of Tibetan and Han culture, with high mountains and steep slopes, as well as cold climite. The means of livehood should include plateau plantation, husbandry, and business for a family to survive and develop. This leads to a large family labor migraion particularity in areas with bumpy road, away from the house, and with cold weather; then the food container emerges, which possesses the features of heat-preservation, shatter-resistant, lightweight and easy to carry around. Located in the hinterland of Hengduan Mountain, Diqing is rich in forest resources, which help to reserve all kinds of abundant trees for the production of carpentry, and this is the basis for wooden bowl culture.This essay is based on the natural and social environments of Diqing Tibetan people, and consider conprehensively the background of the emergence and development of wooden bowl, as well as its multiple cultural meanings. The introduction part includes dissertation reason and meaning, the characteristics of the natual and social environment of the field, and theoretical presupposotion based on academic review.From the second part to the sixth part, this essay discusses repectively the scale and mode of production, organizor and producor, circulation and consumption patterns, producing tools and materials, the types and usage scenario of wooden bowls and its transition.The seventh part and the eighth part consider the reason of the transition of the wooden bowl culture and the development dilemma of wooden bowl business. Wooden bowls with its secular and sacred characters in Tibentan life are not only for domestic sales but also has exported to Tibet, India, Nepal and other Tibetan areas. By bowls, not only to Yunnan, China and around the world Tibetans are banded together, but also the Pumi, Naxi and other ethnic minorities are linked together in secular and sacred world.Therefore, the systematic study of the wooden bowl culture on its transition of materials, types, shapes, tools, production and organizational models along with the change of times, on the one hand can provide as a case for social relations of cultural products (including both secular and sacred circles); on the other can become an important medium of "globalizing" and "being globalized on " of Tibetan culture from daily life tools of the ethnic population to "the development of tradition", and provide as a theoretical thinking of the gaming tools through "the capitalization of ethnic culture" in marginal minority region.
