Study On The Theory And Practice Of National Self-determination In Post Cold War Period

After the end of the Cold War, the international relations have entered into the Post Cold War Period, which has opened the era of peace and development.With the end of the bipolar structure,The ethnic conflicts that was suppressed and hided by the the bipolar structure in the multi-ethnic country was quickly released,a wave of ethnic separatism began to sweep the world.Many ethnic splitting molecules require to separate from their homeland by taking advantage of "the right of national self-determination",which lead to unrest in the international order.The right of national self-determination has therefore become one of the highly controversial topic, although specification and elaboration on the right of peoples to self-determination is abundant,but till today, still not formed a unified conclusion.Different countries and political groups based on different purposes is still use this principle in different ways.Is the right of national self-determination out of date? The chaos in theory result in a direct abuse and misuse of national self-determination in practice.Besides, the dominant country always use human rights to interfere other country’s ethnic issues,which cast a dishonorable shadow over national self-determination.what’s more,the double-sided attitudes and the use of double standards on the issue of national self-determination, drag the national self-determination into a awkward dilemma.By assorting and research the controversies related to the theory of national self-determination,and combing typical international practice,such as the Kosovo and the Crimea events,I try to analysis the exist problems while using the right of national self-determination,and put forward my own thinking.I think we should treat the right to self-determination rationally in the post Cold War period, also should improve and update the connotation of it from the perspective of international law,so that we can resolve the disputes and abuse issues arising out of its ambiguity.At the same time,we should take full advantage of the United Nations to against the powers of hegemony and interventionism and establish a stable international security mechanisms.But to fundamentally solve the opposition between national self-determination and national sovereignty in modern, We need to proceed from the multi-ethnic internal integration of relations between different ethnic groups,.By implementing equal nation policy and fully respecting for ethnic pluralism and diversity, turning the self-determination into autonomy,we can effectively eliminate the political separation factor of ethnic minorities.By strengthening political, economic and cultural exchanges between different ethnic groups,we can promote the integration of multi-ethnic.By cultivating civic consciousness,we can weaken inter-ethnic distinction and strengthen national identity.
