Since the reform and opening up in 1978, the college entrance examination system in China has recovered and supplied a large number of talents under the strategic background of reinvigorating China through human resource development and developing the country through science and education, which greatly promoted the progress and development of science and economy.However, there are also many problems arising with the achievements, such as the uneven distribution of education resources, the difficult admission for school children of migrant workers and major defects of college entrance examination system.Therefore, since the reform and opening up, the idea of education equality presented by Deng Xiaoping has played an active role to promote equality in education area and become an important theory in China’s socialist construction.This article summarized Deng Xiaoping’s education fair thought since the reform and opening up, sums up the main content.Through the combination of theory and practice, summarizes the significance of it.This paper is mainly composed of four parts:The first part introduces the ideological basis and the theoretical sources of Deng’s theory which is greatly inspired by the education equality ideas in China’s traditional culture, Marx and Engels Theory and Mao Zedong Thought.The second part is mainly about the historical background and the formation of Deng’s education equality since the reform and opening up. The historical background includes the special domestic and international environment at the time, the educational practices with China’s characteristics and Deng’s personal life experiences. The formation progress is shown systematically from the emerging phase to the forming progress and then the perfection.The third section is mainly about Deng’s efforts on promoting education equality.The basic requirements of education equality are to deal with the relationship between efficiency and equality of education,and then promote a harmonious development between economy and education equality. The way to achieve education equality is to increase the investment in education funding, improve teachers’ status and treatment,and diversify other school running forms.The fourth part mainly analyzes the significance of Deng’s education equality thought. His thought of education equality is a further development and enrichment ofMarxist ideological education equality, and a supplement and perfection of Mao Zedong thought. It’s an exploration and innovation of the equality thought in education with Chinese characteristics under a new historical conditions,which makes it the ideological foundation of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Deng’s education equality has successfully nurtured a large number of talents and dramatically improved China’s educational system.
