In recent years, the social problem about “unaffordable medical charges” in China has stirred up public concern and argumentum, the strained relationship between physicians and patients has also become a threat to the stability and security of the society. The main causation of this severe social contradiction is the rampant corruption in areas about pharmaceuticals purchases and sales. The bribery in medical trading has the common attrib utes of commercial bribery, furthermore it also demonstrates own notable characteristics, such as multifarious link and prolonged cycle; the majority of offenders are complicity; diversified unlawful artifices that make corruption difficult to be detected and punished; both sides of bribery have accordant interests. This kind of illicit competition deed in medical system has produced tremendous aftereffect, which not only impeded the development of pharmaceutical industry and firms, but also created tremendous challenge to the society. And most importantly, it has profound impact on people’s well-being.The root cause of the problem is the lack of comprehensive legal system to regulate business corruptions. The lenient punishment on corruption offenses and the unethical behavior of self-centered medical sales representatives are important factors that have contributed to the escalation of corruption. Immediate attention must be drawn to the matter to protect public interests. Solutions should include establishing a comprehensive legal system to eliminate corruption and regulate industry practices, providing training to legal authorities to ensure consistent enforcement of the law, educating medical providers on preventive measures to avoid corruptions traps, and enforcing much harsher punishments on offenders to deter corruption crimes.
