A Study On The Public Diplomacy Of Asia Foundation In China

The true meaning of foundation appeared in the 20 th century U.S, referring to those organizations which are non-governmental, non-profit, having their own funds usually from a single individual, family or company, and setting up the board of directors for planning and managing. The purpose of foundation is to support or assist educational, social, charitable,religious or other activities to serve public welfare. The major way is to offer grants to other nonprofit organizations. Today foundation has become an important carrier of the government to implement public diplomacy. In doing so, it has made a significant contribution to a country’s public diplomacy.The Asia Foundation, which is funded by the government of the United States, has played an important role in public diplomacy of the United States through a series of development aid activities in Asian countries. It promotes the communication and understanding of the United States of Ameria and China, and enhances the image of the U.S. in China. It also bring the ideology and values of the United States to China in order to cultivate "Pro- Americans", and ultimately to fulfill and safeguard America’s national interests.Although the Asia Foundation’s activities in China are ultimately aimed at achieving the national interests of the United States, it cannot be denied that the contribution it has made has helped the development and stability of China. Since China has paid more and more close attention to public diplomacy in recent years and already put it on it’s agenda, the Asia Foundation’s activities will certainly have an important significance for China to promote the local foundations in public diplomacy.
