Nowadays, with the rapid development of the new breed information technology represented by techniques of Internet of Things, cloud computing and intelligent terminals, innovational applications, like microblogs and social networking sites, become more and more popular. In new media age, it enables the netizens to take part in the local politics, playing an active role of democratic supervision over the government affairs. On the other hand, because of the open-ended, anonymity and immediacy of the Internet, it brings greater challenges to government’s response the network public opinion. Related with it’s special function, the police are always on the waves of social contradictions, drawing the press’ s spotlight and the public’s attention. Once the police took the inappropriate measure to deal with the public opinion on the Internet, the police’s image even the government’s credit would suffer great influence negatively.Therefore, this article, based on the reality of Guangzhou Public Security Bureau, tries to study the response countermeasures to the police-involved public opinion on the Internet. In chapter one, this article is started with a brief explanation of the study background, significance, research status at home and abroad. Chapter two introduces the relevant theories, and then gives an exposition of the meaning, characteristics of the police-involved public opinion on the Internet, which lay the groundwork for the further study. Chapter three analyzes the present situation, remaining problems and reasons of Guangzhou police’s dealing with public opinion online through two topic cases. And chapter four introduces the experiences of American and Britain police as well as Chinese Hong Kong and Guangdong Zhongshan Public Security Bureau. Aiming at the remaining problems of Guangzhou’s responding work, chapter five tries to bring up some measures in the aspects of conception, mechanisms, principles, and techniques, in order to improve the Guangzhou police’s abilities to encounter the police-involved public opinion online.
