A Study On The Influencing Factors About Citizen Participation In NIMBY

Recent years, a number of environmental groups struggle against potentially negative impact of industrial projects, expressed as NIMBY events in the western discourse, have emerged around our country. Evolving NIMBY events make some local governments face more and more safety challenges and also bring a lot of problems to effective environmental governance. In that case, more and more scholars begin to carry on a wide range of researches about the phenomenon of NIMBY So far, many scholars tend to study the phenomenon from the perspective of NIMBY conflicts management, analyze the causes of NIMBY conflicts and try to find some measures to reduce NIMBY conflicts and improve environmental governance. Besides, many scholars are more willing to choose to make qualitative analysis rather than quantitative analysis. Such conditions turn into the starting point of my research.The objective of this paper is to search the significant influencing factors about Citizen Participation in NIMBY and provide some useful and rationalization proposals for effective environmental governance. Group events against the siting of waste incinerators once happened in Huizhou, which had a great impact on the local society. Therefore, the author takes Huiyang district of Huizhou as an example and makes a empirical research on the influencing factors about Citizen Participation in NIMBYFirstly, the paper puts forward the research hypotheses by combining the theories relating to NIMBY and the interviews to some villagers. Secondly, a questionnaire is designed and a survey is made. Thirdly, based on the survey data of 306 samples, using SPSS.20 software, the author makes full use of correlation analysis, one-way analysis of variance, one sample t test and multiple liner regression analysis to seek the significant influencing factors about Citizen Participation in NTMBY The analysis reveals that Citizen Participation in NIMBY is mainly influenced by the factors of risk perception, trust, level of Citizen Participation, distance, age and level of education. Finally, according to the results of data analyzing, this paper put forward three measures:strengthening the risk communication, raising the level of trust and promoting public participation in environmental affairs.
