Study On The Effective Long-term Mechanism Of University Students’ Volunteered Service Activity

At the one hundredth anniversary celebration of Tsinghua University’s foundation, Hu Jin-tao, the chairman of China, have proposed three expectations for the youth university students:"I hope you can integrate knowledge-learning with morality-enhancement, integrate creative thinking ability improvement with social practice, integrate all-round development with individuality cultivation. These are requirements of the age which Hu Jin-tao puts forward on behalf of CPC and the Chinese people. In an age full of passion, an increasing number of university students choose to be a glorious volunteer at the journey of our motherland’s advancement. They are talented groups who can shoulder the social responsibility and history-endowed mission. On them, the light of wisdom is flickering and a strong sense of the age is emitted. Under the guidance of socialistic core values, the university student’s voluntary service participated the process of constructing a socialistic harmonious society in more and more abundant contents and various forms. Against the background of this age, how to guarantee the continuity of this voluntary service activity and how to educate university students through these activities are contemporary issues in front of every university student educators.This essay, under the presumption that university student’s voluntary service activity is an important innovation of the Communist Youth League of the higher education institutions in face of new situation and an effective method to further their moral education, explored how to establish an effective long-term mechanism of university student’s volunteered service activity on the base of their moral education feature and the problems lying in.The first part is a rational understanding of the effective long-term mechanism of university students’volunteered service activity. Firstly, with a clarification of the concepts related to the "volunteered service activity" and a summary of the development of the volunteered service activity home and abroad, this chapter summed up its four stages from its emergence to its overall development. Secondly, the content of the mechanism was explained. Thirdly, the characteristic and significance of university students’volunteered service activity were reduced.The second part is about the realistic foundation of the mechanism. Firstly, this chapter summarized the achievement of university students’ volunteered service activity:the number of university student volunteer is increasing; its systems are perfecting, its related fields are enlarging; the quality of the university students is improved. Secondly, problems lying in university students’ volunteered service activity are analyzed:objectively, the university and society didn’t attach enough importance to it; subjectively, the capabilities of volunteers are not satisfied, the method of voluntary service activities not diversified and the corresponding mechanism lacked.The third part is about the content of the effective long-term mechanism. We deeply analyzed the requirement of strengthening and improving the university student’s moral education. Under the guidance of the socialistic culture and socialistic core values, the effective long-term mechanism should cover the following five sub-mechanism:the aim-steering mechanism, the organization mechanism, the environment-creating mechanism, the performance estimation mechanism and the feedback mechanism.The forth part is about the enforcement of the effective long-term mechanism. Firstly, this chapter summarized the basic elements in the process of conducting the university students’ volunteered service activity. Secondly, this chapter discussed its requirements which include four aspects:fully exercising the lead of university’s Communist Youth League, steering the professionalization of university students’volunteered service activity, sticking to the method of combining the ideal of innovation and excellent traditions of our culture, forwarding international cooperation and communication.
