Both Japan and China are influenced by oriental culture, and they have a lot of similarities in physics education. In recent decades the reform of Japanese physics education forms its own character by learning and organically integrating a lot of west reform ideas and experiences, and the world attach importance to Japanese physics education. In twenty-first century new physics curriculum of Chinese and Japanese both have some changes in dealing with physics content, so it is necessary to do comparative study on difficulty of physics curriculum in China and Japan compulsory education.Taking Chinese and Japanese high school physics curricula as the object of study, using the literature research method, comparative method and modeling method, based on the differences and Similarities in the development of Chinese and Japanese physics curricula, by means of model of physics curriculum difficulty, we compared Chinese and Japanese physics curricula to find differences and put forward some suggestions. In the first part, this paper has expanded the differences and similarities of social background, reform motivation, curriculum value orientation with the time as the clue.In the second part, by making the concept of physics curriculum difficulty, the model of physical curriculum difficulty is founded based on internal and external dimensions which are the models of content difficulty and item difficultyIn the third part, by means of the models of physics curriculum difficulty, we compared Chinese and Japanese physics curricula to find differences. Firstly, content of physical course was divided into five parts:mechanics, optics, electromagnetics, thermology, atomic physics. We made a quantitative evaluation and analysis on curriculum depth, curriculum width, lesson period to compare content difficulty to find differences in five parts. Then we made a quantitative evaluation and analysis on knowledge quantity, situation, operation, reasoning to compare item difficulty and find differences. So we can draw a conclusion that the content difficulty of Japanese physics curriculum is higher than that of Chinese physics curriculum; the difficulty of Japanese item is lower than that of Chinese item. The differences between China and Japan curriculum are stem from curriculum influence and indirect culture context conations. Some curriculum reasons were considered to lead to these differences, which are the conflict of curriculum ideas, the results of simplifing curriculum, the differences on the design of textbooks, examination orientation. In the last, on the basis of curriculum comparison and analysis, some advices were put forward to Chinese curriculum, which were:pay much attention to the alignment of curriculum; retreat the cross-discipline contents, strengthening design of textbook layout.
