The Abstract is very important in paper-searching and reading in the world.Abstract is required to writing in two languages: Chinese and English, while theEnglish abstract plays a key role in International Academic Exchanges in Sports.However, the postgraduates who major in Physical Education are not good in EnglishAbstract writing. In this paper, the English abstract writing of sports academic thesiswill be analyzed based on master’s thesis in Hunan Province.The object of this study is150English abstracts, which chose from150papers in sports colleges postgraduate in Hunan province between2006to2011. Italso conducted a questionnaire survey towards100sports specialized postgraduatedstudents and100other non-English major postgraduates. English abstract writing ininstitute of sports compares to other (Non-English Majors) postgraduates isrelatively poor. The errors in English writing are mainly on the lexical level;sentence level; the discourse level; grammatical level and temporal dimension.According to the results, the standard of Sports Academic English abstractwriting is talked in paper, including titles, keywords and abstract. Error analysis andstatistics counting were carried out on the analysis of typical cases of the150excellent papers of English abstract choose from Sports Academic, which includingvocabulary, sentence, discourse, tense and grammatical level. Then it talks thecommon errors in English abstract writing of Chinese sports thesis, and puts forwardthe corresponding proposal according to the results of the questionnaire and theanalysis in English abstract of sports in the thesis writing.It founds main problems and difficulties of English abstract of sports in Chinain the thesis writing and makes appropriate recommendations in this study, whichwill make the English abstract in Sports Academic writing standardizing, andpromote exchanges in sports dissertations of the international academic.
