This study is designed for the survey of junior high schoolstudents’ vocabulary learning strategies, to improve the useof vocabulary learning strategies, to help students breakthrough the difficulties of learning English vocabulary, andto enhance the confidence of the students to learn English well.This study also attempts to consider vocabulary learningstrategies as one way to promote junior high school vocabularyteaching, to lay the foundation for learning English as theyenter a higher school. The general objective of the study isto investigate and find out the frequency of using vocabularylearning strategies among English learners. In the study, aquestionnaire about five vocabulary learning strategiesincluding fifty statements was administered to the first,second and third grades of195junior high school students inGuiyang Weiming Experimental School with the aim of achievingthe objectives of the study via using Microsoft Excel and SPSS(Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). Statisticalanalysis indicates that significant differences of meta-cognitive strategy and cognitive strategy exist between skipnew word and take notes of the subjects are correlated with these two strategies, indicating that the use of strategies hasan impact on foreign language learning achievement. Thefindings also show that the overall use of language learningstrategies significantly varied between excellent students andaverage students. Excellent learners significantly prevailover average ones in the use of vocabulary learning strategies.On the whole, sex differences in vocabulary learning strategiesis not obvious. But girl students are more active in the useof dictionary, and they would like to guess the meaning of anew word from its grammar structure. While boy students tendto write down main point selectively and revise the vocabularymore often.
