Vocabulary is one of the most important parts of language. For it is thefoundation of language learning. We can say it is nothing without vocabulary. Thus vocabulary teaching is an essential part of English teaching. But inreality, most English teachers believe that words learning is the students’ ownjobs and ask students to recite words after class. Some teachers make noefforts at all to deal with vocabulary teaching and leave the whole task to thelearners for self-learning. So they often ignore the vocabulary teaching in class. As we know without teachers’ help and guidance, it is very difficult forlearners to memorize words. If teachers teach vocabulary in a more efficientway and help learners to develop good vocabulary learning strategies, language learning will surely be more enjoyable and less painstaking and moreeffective.Based on the vocabulary teaching strategies theories, This paper aims toexplore the situation of vocabulary teaching better by surveying thevocabulary teaching strategies used by teachers in Anshun No.1Senior HighSchool and the reasons.
