Human communication is the combination of language communication and nonverbal communication.Kinesics belongs to nonverbal communication. Kinesics is nonverbal specific position or movementspeople adopt in the process of communication to convey information, to express feelings and to showattitudes. It is part of the teachers important teaching skills, a kind of art; meanwhile it functions as amedia of teacher-student communication. However, because the traditional teaching concept affectsteachers, therefore many English teachers in senior high school pay more attention to the explanation oflanguage points in text books, which lead to the fact that teachers in class speak too much while studentskeep taking notes all the time. They neglect the communication with their students. At the same time, theydo not care about the function and effect of their kinesics. Therefore, it is essential to focus on teacherskinesics in class.The thesis conducted the case study on teachers kinesics in English teaching classroom in senior highschool. In this study,4teachers and102Grade one students were chosen. Through questionnaires,classroom observation, videotape and interview, attempting to investigate:1. What types of kinesics have Chinese and foreign teachers used in senior high school classroom?How about the frequency?2. Are Chinese teachers and foreign teachers aware of the importance of kinesics in senior high schoolclassroom?3. What are the effects after Chinese teachers and foreign teachers using kinesics in senior high schoolclassroom?The main findings of the research indicate:1) Teachers are not fully aware of the importance of the verbal communication. Students pay moreattention to teachers facial expressions, positions in the classroom and focus little on teachers fingermovement and touching.2) The types of teachers kinesics mainly employed in senior high school classroom are bending overtoward students, walking in the classroom, pointing at students or blackboard, making eye contact,staring at students.3) Teachers kinesics do influence students participation in class. The four teachers had differentways to stimulate the students participation through their kinesics. The paper aims to compare kinesics of Chinese teacher with foreign teacher; it can lay stress onkinesics, change their traditional idea and help them to search for methods to classroom teaching, hopingthat it can provide teachers reference and enlightenment.
