The ultimate goal of language learning is communication. Without language input(listening), there will be no language output (speaking), not to mention communication.Listening comprehension is a significant part of English teaching. New Curriculumrequires junior middle school students must have certain vocabulary and comprehendEnglish listening materials that match their skills.Listening is a key factor in improving the overall quality of junior middle schoolEnglish teaching. It places an important impact on students’ grasp of fundamentalknowledge and the basic skills including listening, speaking, reading as well as writing.Therefore, it’s necessary and feasible to conduct surveys in this field, find problemsexist in teaching process and try to solve them.Under the current education system, there is no settled conclusion about what levelthe rural students’ listening skills are at and whether their listening reach the requirementor not. This thesis aims to study on the teaching of English listening teaching in ruraljunior middle schools in Guanzhong area, probe the problems existing both in teachingand learning process, and at the same time give some advice on how teachers play aleading role to help students overcome those listening obstacles by using teaching andlistening technics.Surveys on English listening teaching in rural junior middle school in GuanzhongArea can effectively narrow the gap between urban and rural areas of English educationas well as improve and enhance the rural listening education play a role in promotingeducation of. Also, due to the similarities of the education reform measures. Owing to thecommon characteristics of education reform countermeasures, this research also helps toinspire and mining methods to improve English teaching in other areas and also perfectthe rural English teaching system. Thus, teachers can stand on a macroscopic overalldimensions to better perceive, explore and deal with the relationship between the various elements of English teaching.This survey is conducted in3rural junior middle school–Renliu Middle School,Xingzhe Middle School and Xinfeng Middle School–in Guanzhong area with differentmethods including document literature, questionnaires, interviews, naturalisticobservations, comparison and induction. Participants of this survey,5English teachersand50junior two students from each school, will be observed and studied. At the sametime, classroom observation and interviews of students and teachers will also beconducted throughout the research. All questionnaires will be distributed to the sixclasses of those three schools, then statistically compare the data collected throughspss11.5.The findings show that rural junior middle school English listening teaching inGuanzhong area is now still in a relatively backward state, the existence problems inlistening teaching are as follows: psychological rejection of English listening, deviationof listening teaching philosophy, limited listening teaching ability, deficiency in bothteaching software and hardware, students’ poor English foundation, unscientific learningmethods and feelings of anxiety.The author combines the data collected during the research with relative teachingtheories of English teaching and reaches some conclusions (or advices) below. First,establish a correct listening attitude; Second, set the proper teaching philosophy; Third,improve listening teaching ability; Fourth, find new teaching methods under limitedfacilities; Fifth, consolidate students’ basic knowledge and improve their learningmethods; Sixth, correctly handle students’ anxiety; Seventh, be more patient withstudents who have learning difficulties in listening, help them rebuild their confidenceand steadily improve their English listening.This thesis is still inadequate in some aspects due to the restriction of both subjectiveand objective conditions. The author is determined to continue this topic and enlarge theresearch scale, and will put these solutions into practice and perfect them.
