In the context of consumption culture, the number of fans increases rapidly and fandom becomes social phenomenon. In this article,I will use qualitative research methods, including ethnography, participation and observation, combined with a simple quantitative research. I will draw consumer social theory and psychoanalytic theory, trying to explore the identity question of Chinese fans. And I will also be a aca-fan, showing my personal experience in the past few years. In the introduction, I summarize the case study of Western subcultures, and Chinese popular culture since1990(including fan culture) developments, providing the background. The dissertation consists of four chapters. Chapter One outlines the theoretical framework and research methodology of the whole project. Chapter Ⅱ and Chapter Ⅲ discuss fans’ agree from two aspects. The second chapter explore from the vertical way, discussing the formation and expression of the fans’ personal identity, which is a self issue and a sense of depth perception. I summarized the causal relationship between fans identity and social culture from four aspects:the impact of consumerism on the identity, fans catering or resisting to the popular culture, the decline of traditional identity, and psychoanalytic interpretation. The third chapter explore from the horizontal way, discussing the identity formation and expression of a fan group.I explain fan community from four parts, virtual identity construction, community discussions, fans’ conduct, the interpersonal negotiation in real life. The fourth chapter, I focus on the intergenerational way. In conclusion, I regard fans identity as a useful complement. It develops in the mixed media culture. According to the different degrees of involvement, the star of the fans influence varies, but generally extremely limited.
