With the development of economy and society, English as a cultural carrier and communication tool,has a great influence on every aspect of our life. The enthusiasm for learning English among people lastsfrom past till now, and will last long, but English learning has always been the focal point and the difficultyat the same time. Among the so called four abilities of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, writing isregarded as the most eloquent one, which is also the most important reference to judge a person’s Englishability. For Chinese high school students, the most difficult problem to overcome is the lack of writingability, and along with the higher requirement of new curriculum standards to high school students, Englishwriting has been an important content in the process of English teaching. Then how to develop high schoolstudents’ writing skills, to improve students’ writing proficiency and find more effective way of teachingEnglish writing has brought new challenge to high school English teachers. These are the top hot topicsobviously. This dissertation intended to apply prefabricated chunks to practical English writing teachingwhich is based on the former theoretical research, in order to find the new effective way of teachingEnglish writing.With the development of the researches on prefabricated chunks, prefabricated chunks play more andmore important role in English writing teaching. What’s more, our English teachers have also got hugeinspiration for writing teaching, the immeasurable impact of fabricated chunks has aroused more and moreattentions. This dissertation, guided by the theory of prefabricated chunks, combining the theory withpractical English writing teaching, aims to explore the question that whether prefabricated chunks makegreat contribution to English writing or not, the present study mainly concentrate on the following fourquestions:(1) What difficulties do high school students have in English writing?(2)What is the effect ofprefabricated chunks in improving high school students’ writing skills?(3)What are the attitudes do highschool students have towards prefabricated chunks English writing teaching?(4)What are the problems withprefabricated chunks teaching? Participants of this experiment are the students from Zhengzhou No.1Middle School who study in class one and class two, grade two. Class one is the experimental class and theclass two is the control class, qualitative and quantitative research methods such as questionnaires and tests before and after experiment are used respectively to explore the questions mentioned above, and use thesoftware SPSS to analyze the scores of students writing.The results indicate that:(1) The common problem about high school students’ English writing is thelack of phrase chunks;(2) Prefabricated chunks teaching is more effective to English writing teaching thantraditional English writing method;(3) Most students spoke highly of prefabricated chunks teaching;(4) Thesubjective factor which students cannot concentrate on prefabricated chunks learning was the problem to besolved in the future study. All in all, the students’ attitudes towards English writing are positive. Most ofthem believe that they benefited a lot from prefabricated chunks teaching method.
