From Envy To Resentment:the Changes Of The Contemporary Chinese Social Emotions(Since1978)

Any society not only has a unique social structure and economic development model, but also has a unique spirit and emotional rhythm. Social emotion is the emotional representation in the process of social development, while emotional sensibility and volatility makes it "an indicator""barometer" and "reference" of political and social structure change. Current China enter the period of social transition, social reform also enter the critical period of overcome difficulties, social contradictions emerge multiple characteristics,and social conflicts intensified. While recently the media have exposure malignant accident cases frequently,such as " the slain case","the kindergarten injury","Xiamen BRT arson",making the public opinion and people can’t help questioning "what’s the matter with the Chinese". According to the survey of the social mentality blue book,"currently mass resentment have enhanced, especially alert to this mass resentment expands to the whole social emotion".Since the reform and opening up, social emotion have varied from envy to resentment, the society has experienced the evolution of a series of emotion:in the early of the reform, The policy of the previous rich driving the latter once make envy to be striking keynote, and resentment as the social competitive power once played a "positive energy"; With the curing of interest pattern, the widening gap between the rich and poor, social mobility being blocked, social structure being solidified and the loss of social consensus, resentment as a "spiritual poison" has become a dominant social negative emotions, which bring general psychological distress to the social public,great pressure to the benign operation of society,and become disharmonious factors to the social stability. It should be taken seriously to ease urgently. The author expects that through to the multivariate review of the current social emotions changes and formation mechanism, so as to provide creative reference to effectively dissolve the negative social emotions in the society. This is mainly divided into six parts:The introduction part mainly introduces the origin of the research, the current research status on social emotion at home and abroad, discrimination of the core concept of "social mood","envy" and "resentment" as well as the main research methods.The first chapter introduces the social emotion in China1978years ago."The founding of new China" a landmark breaking point--marks that China’s social emotion and national mentality will present a unique characteristics of The Times, and social emotion displays three main characteristics:emancipation under a sense of nationalism; common equality under the poor consciousness; political apathy under the collective.The second chapter mainly elaborated the social emotion which is in priority of envy in the early period of reform. Reform and opening up has broken the original rigid and relatively simplex economic interests pattern, and made a diversification adjustment of interests pattern, which means:the differentiation of economic interests. The differentiation broke the mode of egalitarianism of economic interests after the founding of our country. People will certainly be aroused a emotion of resistance relative average faced with the original social structure adjustment. Whereas In such emotions, envy share the dominate part.The third chapter discusses the internal conditions and structural reasons that the envy changes to resentment:Envy requires two conditions changing to resentment: the "violently churning" of inner mechanism enhanced,which means impotence and "strong stimulation" of external field,which also means great change of the economic, political, social and cultural aspects.The fourth chapter generalizes the procedure of the generation in current social resentment and main features. Referring to the case "Wukan incident", which vividly reproduce the process:the starting point of resentment-brewing-fermentation-the outbreak; Resentment present three features:a generalization, the geometric type transmission and the trend of stratification.The fifth chapter put forward the social value foundation to relieve resentment, that is political tolerance. Political tolerance is a moderate means of dealing with social contradictions, can alleviate the intensified resentment, thus by means of the establishment of multiple interests coordination mechanism, the political compromise and democratic consultation mechanisms and developing an inclusive political culture, to resolve social conflicts, improve the ability of social governance, and to be the value basis to relieve social resentment.
