In recent years, the research on how to teach writing has been carried out throughout the city Shanghai vigorously. One of the hottest issues is how to teach writing in junior middle schools. There do exist some difficulties in teaching writing to junior middle school students:improper writing tasks, the lack of time for teaching writing, a heavy burden of correcting students’writing due to the size of the class and etc. Therefore, some teachers attempt to apply peer feedback to their teaching to solve these problems. They commonly organize the students to give comments on certain aspects of peers’writing. However, the results turn out to be dissatisfactory. How to apply peer feedback to teaching writing to junior middle school students is a problem teachers need to think about and solve.This study starts with the theories of peer feedback, which analyzes whether it is feasible at junior middle schools. After drawing experience from previous practice, the writer engaged in a new study at the eighth grade of a junior middle school. In this study:the writer improved the handouts for writing classes by organizing them to tabloids, making it easier to communicate information to the students; the teacher and the students comment on some writing samples together, setting a good example to students; better-designed comment tables for middle students are used; teachers check peers’comments to make sure students receive accurate feedback.After class observation, data analysis, questionnaires and interviews, the following conclusions are drawn:(1) The application of peer feedback to junior middle school students can improve students’writing abilities and create a good atmosphere for writing in class.(2) Peer feedback effectively solves some of the difficulties that junior middle school students are faced with.(3) Most junior middle school students support peer feedback, and are able to complete peer feedback successfully.
