Entering senior high school is a turning point to the junior high school graduates.Whether students can have a successful transition from junior study to senior study directlydetermines the effect of their senior study. Many students can’t adapt to the Englishlearning after they enter the senior high school, the results of tests decreasing in directproportion. Teachers feel compelled to apply practical and effective teaching methods toguide the students to make a good transition in learning English.This study explores the significance and concrete measures of thejunior-to-senior-high school transition, as well as the influence it has on the students’English learning in Senior Grade One. One term’s experiment shows that a successfuljunior-to-senior-high school transition will makes a great positive difference to thestudents’ English learning.98Students in Class11and Class12Grade1in Jiangyin Qingyang Senior HighSchool are chosen as the subjects of the research. A questionnaire is administered to findout the problems and obstacles existing in the students’ learning after they enter the seniorhigh school. Then a study on transition in English learning has been carried on for fivemonths. The surveys about learning strategies done before and after the experiments, alongwith the comparison of students’ test results further testify the advantage of using such ateaching method. According to the surveys, the conclusion can be drawn as follows:1)There are some obvious problems and drawbacks in the current English learning of thesenior one students;2) There is close relationship between changes of English LearningStrategies during the period of Junior-to-Senior-High-School Transition and Senior1students’ English learning performance3) The differences in learning views, learningmethods, together with learning strategies among students, contribute to the differentresults of the transition.To further promote better effects of the students’ English learning in senior onestudents, the author suggests that students in senior one should make great efforts to put thefollowing ideas into practice: to establish correct learning views, to form good English learning habits consciously and to persist scientific and effective English learningstrategies.
