Secondary school, one of the grass-roots organizations of sports training, has made asignificant contribution to the foundation of China’s physical culture. Due to the particularityof school education, there exists obvious difference between secondary school sports trainingand high level of professional training. Furthermore, secondary school sports trainingcannot be equated with general physical exercises and teaching process. In addition toacademic courses, athletes in secondary school take on the tasks of training and competition;that is to say, they should not only invest plenty of time and energy to raise their own sportslevel, but also complete the learning task at school. Therefore, under the guidance of teachersor coaches, school team needs to carry on scientific and systematic training for students withsolid foundation in sports in their spare time. Athletes in secondary school is not only aspecial group but also an important part of reserve sports talents, and therefore they shouldbe gained more attention. Along with the development of market economy and theimprovement of scientific level, a series of problems reflected in the cultivation of reservesports talents appear. That the original training mode becomes more and more unsuitable tokeep up the development of reserve competitive sports talents brings new challenge to thecultivation of them. Meanwhile, youth is the best time to improve human athletic quality, andtherefore competitive sports team in secondary school will become a main force of China’sreserve competitive sports talents. In Jilin Province, where the economy develops slowly, thecultivation of reserve competitive sports talents faces many problems. For example, the eventsdistribution in secondary school competitive sports is irrational; the compatible degree withevents within the province is not high; the development level of events is low, and theshortage of reserve competitive sports talents is obvious. From the empirical view, and by using expert interview, literature consultation, mathematical statistics method, field investigation, questionnaire method, this studycomprehensively investigates the development of competitive sports in Changchun’sfirst-class key senior secondary school, and makes a thorough analysis. Conclusions aredrawn as follows:Sports events carried out by first-class key senior secondary school focus on fundamentalones such as track and field, basketball and so on, and however, dominant events of JilinProvince like speed skating, figure skating, cycling, judo and so on are not carried out byschool; though coaches of first-class key senior secondary school have reasonable agestructure, length of service and have higher education degree, they lack rich experience, highdegree of professionalization, reasonable staff-student ratio and opportunities for further education; as athletes of first-class key senior secondary school have more chances toparticipate in contests and their training level is continuously improved, they have more pathsand more room after graduation, from only entering university to learning in profession teamsand clubs; contradiction between study and sports training is still the bottleneck of thedevelopment of competitive sports in senior secondary school, and how to solve the problemremains the subject of first-class key senior secondary school competitive sports.
