As one of the best representatives of our traditional culture, Martial Arts are a national spirit and acultural symbol. All styles of Martial Arts constitute important elements of Martial Arts, while theirinheritors are the dominant persons who maintain the sustainable development of these elements. Therefore,to protect these inheritors is the key to prevent the demise and loss of all these fist styles, and also is aserious problem nowadays. In the new era, because of the impact of the intersection of cultural prosperityand the conversion of people’s concept, some Martial Arts styles have gradually been left out, in a weak ordisappearing state with the development of society. In this trend, many inheritors of traditional Martial Artshave disappeared, and some are trying to promote their glorious comeback. Even some other inheritors diedalong with their skills. In this background, it is obviously more and more important to research theirinheritance, protection and dissemination. Therefore, then arise the carding of inheritance mechanism, inheritors’ protection, the status quo of present social fist styles and the countermeasures of fist styledisappearance.Fu-Hsi Eight-diagram Fist originated from Huaiyang, which is nation-famous for its Martial Arts. Justlike other fist style, it is in a critical period of development, facing the transition from tradition to modernity, and the modern transition of inheritance and popularization. Among other fist style in similar situations,Fu-Hsi Eight-diagram Fist is a great representative. Through studying Fu-Hsi Eight-diagram Fist andexploring current social values and development models, this thesis is aimed at promoting social protectionand inheritance of traditional Martial Arts fist styles.Based on the survival status of inheritance and development of Martial Arts fist styles, this thesisapplies literature research, expert interviews, questionnaires, field trips and other research methods toanalyze the inheritance of Fu-Hsi Eight-diagram Fist, and carry on a case analysis on its inheritance at theschools. Associated with the research law of other fist styles, this author attaches great importance on thecombination of theory and practice, and takes steps to question asking, evidence researching, ideaestablishing, and conclusion making. As the research results show, Fu-Hsi Eight-diagram Fist has a profound cultural background, and itwas created by Liu Huai during the reign of Qianlong in Qing Dynasty. Based on Fu-Hsi culture andEight-diagram theory, Liu combined what he had learned and he created, compiled and named this kind offist style. Up to now, it has been passed down for six generations. Unlike other fist styles, Fu-HsiEight-diagram Fist still maintains antique traditional style.“Attack and practice” is an important content ofthe composition, and it attaches more importance on actual combat skills. Reading the fist chart whilepracticing is a unique characteristic of Fu-Hsi Eight-diagram Fist, and that does not exist in other fist styles. With the rapid development of social modernization, the survival situation of Fu-Hsi Eight-diagram Fist isnot optimistic. Present practitioners contain very few social practitioners and some student groups whohave been stimulated under the recent policy of “Martial Arts into Campus”. In these groups, youngpractitioners are few and far between, and most of them are the middle-aged and the elderly. They usuallyuse the park, the lake side, the plaza vacant space for their training sites. Student practitioners are inresponse to the spread of modern Martial Arts. They learn the basic contents of Fu-Hsi Eight-diagram Fistby their physical education teachers in physical education courses. According to the survey, there is nofunding and sponsorship for its launching in society and campus. Its inheritance modes contain familyinheritance, mentoring inheritance, social inheritance, and school inheritance. This thesis thinks that thereare five aspects of problems existing in the inheritance of Fu-Hsi Eight-diagram Fist. Firstly, the impact ofcultural diversity makes it eclipse. Secondly, the emphasis on it is not sufficient, and it lack investmentfunds. Thirdly, its inheritance modes are too simple, and it has narrow influence range. Fourthly, it isconstrained by traditional ideology, and there is few to inherit it. Fifthly, its contents are too complex andoutmoded so that it cannot catch up with the times. To solve the above-mentioned problems, this thesisproposes the following measures: First, a cultural environment should be created to promote fist styles tosurvive. Second, support should be strengthened to reinforce the inheritance cornerstone. Third, inheritancemodes should be broadened to expand practicing groups. Fourth, inheritance representatives should beprotected to ensure its development. Fifth, ranking textbook should be compiled to enrich its content.
