In recent years, many studies related to the effectiveness and importance of learningstrategies have offered a great insight for English teaching practitioners–EFL teacherscan or should apply some particular strategies or a repertoire of strategies in classroominstruction. Based on this, the training of learning strategies in teaching has been carriedout, but due to some factors such as the differences of training objects, materials, modelsand approaches, it needs further study. So far, how to integrate strategy-based activitiesinto daily classroom instruction and how to conduct effective strategy training is stillcontroversial. Thus, further studies on strategy training need to be done. This study is an empirical study on the impact of strategy training on speakingproficience, focusing on the special speaking learning task. The subjects in this study are104first-year students in Yulin No.1Senior High School with the present author as theteacher. One class is designated as the experimental class (EC), the other as the controlclass (CC). Through data analysis of pre-and post-test of strategy use and speakingproficiency between EC and CC, the author attempts to prove whether there are anysignificant differences between frequencies of strategy use and speaking proficiency afterstrategy training in order to testify the effectiveness of strategy training on speakingproficiency. In training process, the author chooses Cohen’s SBI training model to conductspeaking strategy training by using explicit and/or implicit instruction. Explicitinstruction focuses on strategy explanation and modeling, while implicit instructionfocuses on special speaking tasks. The whole instructional program will last for20weeks.In week1and week20, some instruments are used to collect the data: one samequestionnaire and two different oral tests are used to collect the quantitative data; aninterview and a checklist of speaking strategies are used as a supplement. The data collected from the questionnaire and oral tests are analyzed by means ofthe software SPSS18.0. Analysis of the experimental findings may be beneficial toforeign language teachers. The limitations and disadvantages of this study may shed lighton further studies.
