Research On National Identity About Chinese Contemporary College Students

Concept of National Identity appears in political science field of behavioralrevolution in the1970s. But due to only focus on the concept of National Identity appearsbarren hole, so it didn’t get the attention deserved. As the third wave of democratizationworldwide as well as eastern Europe, many national appeared different degree offragmentation, so they had to choose new direction and self-image.At the same time,globalization and modernization development also strongly impact the stability and unityof the traditional sovereign state. Therefore, the position of National Identity is moreand more important.National Identity issues is related to both international and personal, and this paperis mainly about the individual level of National Identity. It is a kind of important nationalconsciousness, and an important link to maintain a country’s existence and development.Only people confirm their own National Identity and belonging to the country, they willreally care about the interests of the state, and take the responsibility to the country. Asthe force of social development, college students are effected by both globalization andmodernization, the result is that the National Identity of part of college students has beenweakened. Therefore, the research of the contemporary college students National Identityproblem has important practical significance.Based on historical sociology and social psychology, combing the National Identitytheory, this paper focuses on the problems and solution of contemporary college students’National Identity. Besides the introduction and conclusion, three main chapters of thepaper (chapter two to four) content is as follows:The second chapter mainly combed the related theory of National Identity. First ofall, on the basis of defining the connotation of the identity, this chapter discussed fromtwo part of personal identity and collective identity. Analysis the relationship of theindividual needs satisfaction and their identity, and then analysis the applicability of thetheory on National Identity. Secondly, discussed the content and nature of NationalIdentity, the classification of the types and theoretical origin.From the dual background of globalization and modernization, the third chapter firstdiscussed the performance of the National Identity crisis induced by globalization andmodernization:Political identity crisis, Cultural identity crisis and Ethnic group crisis.Second, the third chapter analyzes the behavior that the National Identity of the collegestudents’ group is weakening.The fourth chapter is foothold of the paper. Cultivation of contemporary collegestudents’ National Identity can meet the needs of the spirit of college students’ identityand belonging, and good for the realization of the self-value and social value. At the same time, integrity, belonging and guidance stressed by National Identity help the collegestudents to reset the relationship between self and the others.At the same time, it alsohelps to ensure the harmonious development of the college students during the period ofgrowth, so as to realizing our own win-win situation with the national and socialdevelopment. To this end, this chapter researched the cultivation strategy of the collegestudents’ National Identity mainly from four aspects which are National Identityeducation concept, College students’ citizen education, Political Identity and NationalConsciousness.
