With the further reform of the college teaching and learning, our traditional collegefaculty training program does not fully meet the demand of both teacher training anddevelopment, and neither in the future. College will have to enhance the sense of facultydevelopment and introduce a well-run faculty development system so as to promote thelevel of both teaching and education quality. The thesis takes the example of the practice of CDIO which is being introduced inYanshan University.Further more, the thesis studies the gap between the domesticfaculty development and international faculty development. The thesis presentssuggestions as well, combined with specific circumstances, on how to promote collegefaculty development. The thesis consists of five sections. The first section is a brief introduction on thestudy. The second section is a historical study on domestic faculty training program.Thethird section is a study on the transition which is from college faculty training to collegefaculty development. The fourth section elaborates the engineering education mode,CDIO(conceive, design, implement, operate) and introduces the CDIO practice inYanshan University. The last section is a study on how to promote faculty program. Someproblems which exist in the current faculty development process have been found andsome improving suggestions are presented. The significance of this study is:(1)Clarifying the connotation of facultydevelopment.(2)Being the most popular concepts, faculty development and CDIO, areadopted more and more in many domestic engineering colleges. It is a rare practice thatthe two concepts are combined together.
