Engineering activities construct the real world of human beings,and engineering thinking is the core of engineering activities,so the cultivation of students’ engineering thinking is particularly important.Engineers rely on engineering thinking to deeply analyze the boundary conditions of engineering activities.Steam education in primary and secondary schools mainly emphasizes the integration of skills and knowledge in the fields of science,technology,engineering,art and mathematics,in which "Engineering" is the main wire connecting steam experience in other fields,but the development of primary school students’ engineering thinking is ignored.In the steam course,most of the steam teaching is carried out in the conventional teaching mode,students imitate the hands-on operation,lack of imagination and design,and ignore the cultivation of students’ engineering thinking.As an engineering education mode,CDIO mode in steam course can not only arouse educators’ attention to the cultivation of engineering thinking,but also make up for the shortcomings of conventional teaching and cultivate learners’ engineering thinking ability.Based on CDIO mode,steam course as the carrier and the cultivation of engineering thinking as the foothold,this study constructs the activity framework of steam course based on CDIO mode,and tests the effect of the activity framework on the cultivation of engineering thinking through quasi experimental research,so as to better cultivate the engineering thinking of primary school students.This research focuses on the following questions: can CDIO model effectively cultivate the engineering thinking of primary school students? Around this core question,this study mainly answers the following sub questions:(1)how to design teaching activities of steam course based on CDIO mode?(2)How can the design and implementation of primary school steam curriculum activities based on CDIO mode promote the development of primary school students’ engineering thinking?(3)How to test the effect of CDIO mode of primary school steam teaching on primary school students’ engineering thinking training?In this study,the main research method is quasi experimental research.First of all,through a large number of literature review and course case analysis,this paper summarizes the basic concepts of CDIO mode and engineering thinking,as well as the research status and theoretical basis of CDIO mode and engineering thinking training at home and abroad.Secondly,by analyzing the dimensions of engineering thinking and the activities of CDIO mode,combined with the characteristics of steam course,a learning activity framework of steam course based on CDIO mode is constructed.Based on this learning activity design framework,engineering cases in steam course are selected as research examples to carry out the activity design of each link.Finally,a quasi experimental study was carried out in the sixth grade of XX primary school in Chengguan District of Lanzhou city.Before the experiment,there was no significant difference in the engineering thinking level between the experimental group and the control group.Based on this,steam based on CDIO mode was used in the experimental group After the experiment,the data before and after the experiment were analyzed.The results show that the engineering thinking level of the students in the experimental group is significantly improved,which verifies that the activity framework is effective for the cultivation of primary school students’ engineering thinking.
