With the deepening of the new curriculum reform, the active development andrational use of course resources in the implementation of English curriculum havebecome more and more important. And the core part of the English curriculumresources is English textbook.Go for it has been used in most provinces of the nation and most users considerthis textbook a high-quality English textbook. However, the situation is differenteverywhere, different regions, different students and teachers may have differentsituations when using the textbook. Even though Go for it is an excellent Englishtextbook, it cannot suit students and teachers everywhere in China.Through literature survey,the use of questionnaires and interviews, the authorinvestigated the current use situation of Go for it in Adu Middle School which locatedin Adu Township, Xuanwei County of Yunnan Province. And on the basis oftheoretical analysis and the present study, the author found various perceptions ofstudents and teachers about English textbook use in their school. The perceptions canbe enumerated as the following: the objectives of this textbook are too demanding andthe degree of difficulty is too high; the contents of this textbook are rich andinteresting, but do not suit rural students; this textbook pays attention to developingstudents’ language skills, but the number of vocabulary is too large, the listeningmaterials are too difficult and the grammar part lacks of systematic arrangement; thetask-based activities designed diversely, but many activities are difficult to operate;this textbook reflects the advanced teaching methods, but increases teaching load ofteachers; it is excellent in both pictures and literary compositions, but lacks ofteaching facilities supporting the teaching of them; etc.The author analyzed and discussed these issues and tried to find the reasons. Healso gave some suggestions for the use of Go for it. Facing the rural andunder-developed areas’ present situation and the defective teaching facilities, teachersshould actively change the educational ideas, constantly renew their knowledge structure and adjust teaching methods. Teachers should incorporate the actualstudents’ needs into the teaching, flexibly and creatively use the textbook. |
