Teacher talk refers to the language in which teachers organize class and impart knowledge in the second language or foreign language classroom. Teacher talk is not only the media through which teachers impart knowledge to students, but also the students’target language. Therefore, how to improve English teaching effectively through reasonable use of teacher talk is explored in the EFL classes at present. This paper used the research method of descriptive analysis with a case study. The author transcribed the videos of two excellent English classes from the National Competition for English Teachers.Through the analysis of the video of high quality English classes, the study got the following implications for English teaching. Firstly, as long as the teacher talk has been clearly delivered to the students, teachers should try to spend less time on teacher talk in class and provided more opportunities for students. Secondly, teachers should use more adjustment techniques to change their methods of questioning and feedback, for example, referential questions should be used more frequently and more positive feedback should be given to students. In a word, English teachers should learn to use various techniques of teacher talk in order to lead students to involve in classroom activity, and thus improve their own English teaching efficiency.
