The late Qing Dynasty is a key period of the creation of early chemistry education system in our country, which plays a decisive role in the history of chemistry education development. In this period, a large number of chemistry textbooks have been published in our country, in order to meet the needs of chemistry curriculum. After the period of exploration and experience, our country has made great progress in chemistry textbooks compilation.The level of chemistry textbooks compilation in the late Qing Dynasty can reflect the contemporary level of chemistry curriculum development in our country.This paper selects 15 elementary chemistry textbooks in the late Qing Dynasty as the research objects,which were published in 1904 to 1914. This paper mainly adopts the literature analysis, comparison and mathematical statistics as research methods, and conduct a study on the construction and characteristics of concept in the elementary chemistry textbooks of the late Qing Dynasty.First of all, based on the literature review, this paper analyzes the creation process of the early chemistry education system and chemistry textbooks of our country in the late Qing Dynasty, and expounds the important position of chemical concept in the chemistry textbooks.Secondly, the main part of this paper is to carry out the research on the construction and characteristics of chemical concept in these textbooks, mainly from both the macroscopic and microscopic aspects. In the macroscopic aspect, it focuses on the statistical analysis of the number, type and presentation of concepts in the textbooks, in order to obtain their changing trends and characteristics. In the microscopic aspect, it focuses on the analysis of microscopic choice characteristics and description levels about the different types of concept.Finally, combining the macroscopic and microscopic research results, this paper concludes the construction and characteristics of concept in the elementary chemistry textbooks of the late Qing Dynasty, and provides inspiration for the textbooks compilation on chemical concept.
