| Assessment is an important procedure of English teaching. Common assessment methods have two kinds: one is summative assessment, and the other is formative assessment. In the process of primary school English teaching, the function of score outstands in summative assessment, which is easy to quantify student performance, but it lacks of the record of the learning process. Based on the continuous observation of learning process, formative assessment is developmental assessment by recording and reflecting students’ emotion and attitude in learning process.The purpose of the research is to explore the application process of formative assessment and its effect on English learning interest of pupils, summarizing some typical assessment tools and their characteristics through related investigation and analysis to make a contribution to how to choose the targeted assessment tools for teachers in the daily teaching process.The subject of the research is about 1200 pupils and 12 teachers in four different primary schools of Sichuan province totally. The research uses empirical methods based on the observation, the interviews for teachers and the questionnaires for pupils. The observation aims to record assessment tools according to different kinds of course; the interviews for teachers aim to get their personal understanding for formative assessment and learning interest; the date analysis of questionnaires can prove the effect of formative assessment on the English learning interest, and the effect is true and obvious.In the previous researches about the effect of formative assessment on the English learning interest, research participants are mainly students from senior high schools and undergraduates with high knowledge achievements. However, the participants are mainly pupils from some primary schools with short-term education in the research. Due to their specific psychological and physical characteristics, the research designs the research procedures that fitted on the actual teaching situations combined with the characters of formative assessment and the influential factors of English learning interest. It makes the research procedures reasonable with a certain practical value.Formative assessment focuses on the application in teaching process, and it can reveal pupils’ problems in learning process directly, which can stimulate teachers to make appropriate and effective assessment tools, and adjust teaching methods promptly to offer pupils enjoyment and encouragement that are necessary to keep continuous learning interest. In the final part, according to the analysis results, the author puts forward some valuable and exercisable teaching suggestions to how to deal with the relationship between formative assessment and pupils’ English learning interest. |
