Nowadays,there still exist some problems of primary English teaching in China,for example,pupils' learning interest goes down at higher grades.This study aims to find the effect of portfolio assessment on pupils' English learning interest through applying portfolio assessment into daily teaching practice.This thesis is intended to probe into the following questions: What's the effect of portfolio assessment on pupils' English learning interest from pupils' perspective,teachers' perspective and parents' perspective?The participants in this study are 30 pupils of Grade 6 in Dujiangyan Lianghe Primary School and their parents,also the English teacher in this Grade.The author puts portfolio assessment into practice in Grade 6,and finds out the answers of research questions through questionnaires,interviews and observation.And the answers of the research questions are portfolio assessment(PA)can improve pupils' English learning interest from those three points of view.From the answers of questionnaires for pupils,we can see motivation of learning interest is improved more than other aspects.From the answers of parents' questionnaires,we can see both the directivity and motivation are improved a lot.From the answers of interviews for pupils and parents,also the results of teacher' observation,the author finds that directivity of learning interest is improved more obviously than other aspects.That means,through PA pupils like learning English more than before and they learn more actively.Apart from these advantages,there are some drawbacks of PA,too.It needs too much time to collect and assess materials.During the process of PA,some learners and teachers may get slack.This could have a negative influence on PA.During the process of PA,teachers should pay more attention to pupils' performance,and then adjust the pace of teaching.What's more,it's necessary for teachers to praise learners' effort and progress to guide them to finish the task effectively.
