With the globalization of economy and information, the countries all around the world increasingly need to connect to other countries. The rate and regularity of communication increase gradually among the people of different language systems and different cultural backgrounds. In China, great importance has also been attached to English education, which is composed of four major parts, i.e., listening, speaking, reading and writing. It is self-evident that English writing plays a very important role in the process of English learning for junior high school students. At the same time, English writing is one of the most difficult parts for the junior high school students to improve their English scores, especially for grade three students in junior high school. Some students even have high level of anxiety when they have to finish the English compositions of their test papers. Therefore, English writing anxiety becomes a problem that needed to be solved urgently. If we look back to literature in China and abroad, there have been many studies and researches focusing on anxiety in foreign language teaching. However, people pay more attention to anxiety in spoken English or listening. Writing anxiety does not gain more concern than others. Literature related to writing anxiety mainly talks about that issue in universities or senior high schools, but only a few in junior high schools.This research is going to state the present situation of the English writing anxiety of the junior three students. Based on the review of previous literature, the author chooses the Junior Three students of Weiyuan NO. 1 Junior Middle School as the research subjects by the research instruments of questionnaire and interview to attempt to explore the three research questions as follows: Is there any English Writing Anxiety in Junior Three Students? What are the possible reasons contributing to English Writing Anxiety in Junior Three Students? What can the English teachers and junior three students do to reduce the junior three students’ English writing anxiety?Based on the data of questionnaires, the author finds that most of the junior three students have the willingness to improve their English writing abilities. However, junior three students do have writing anxiety in English learning, and different origins of English writing anxiety have different effects on the English writing of junior three students. And there is gender difference existing in English writing anxiety of the junior three students. According to the data collection and analysis, the author tries to give some suggestions to both of the English teachers and junior high three students in help of reducing the degree of the students’ writing anxiety and improve their English writing abilities.
