Chemistry teaching materials include chemistry textbooks,supplementary materials and so on. The readability of existing middle school chemistry textbooks is poor, and students can’t acquire clear knowledge because the content of textbooks is oversimplified. And the textbooks are lack of science popularization, delights, scientific thought and scientific method. And supplementary materials focus on solving problems mainly, overmuch exercise training seems slipslop. This article researched chemistry readings’ compilation by learning from the excellent teaching material of other countries. By using this chemistry reading, students can learn by themselves, knowing scientific method and improve their learning interest and efficiency. This research will provide creative suggestions to chemistry teaching and chemistry textbooks’ compilation.This article studied relational literature and theory, took <Science>published by GENGAGE learning as a reference, focused on students’ independent studying, established specific principle and methods and redacted chemistry readings with pictures and abundant matters which is taking oxydo-reduction reaction for example. Then, the researcher let students read the chemistry readings and finish the exercises, this workcan get to know students’ self-study result and this chemistry readings’ readability. At last, ask chemistry teachers in high school for proposal.The results are as follows:① Students can acquire the new knowledge by themselves. The students in Grade 9 can finish the exercises and the Grade 9 students achieved much better than Senior 1 students.② This chemistry reading has readability. It has many advantage such as detailed and clear knowledge, straightaway language,logical structures.③ The contents’ redacting is very interesting. The experiment, life tips, many example close to the life and useful knowledge in this chemistry reading can catch students’ attention and improve their reading interest.④ These contents of chemistry reading is scientific and science popularization. This character is reflected in the STSE concept, scientific literacy, scientific consciousness, which helped student improve their exploring ability and thinking ability.
