As the badminton techniques and tactics develop, more emphasis has been placed on a player’s speed as well as all other aspects of his comprehansive competitive abilityin men’s singles matches.Players score mainly by exerting corresponding techniques in the rearcourt.Rearcourt techniques have become an essencial part in the whole system of techniques and tactics, and a player’s overall competitive ability is determined by his skill of exerting rearcourt techniques. Among them, rearcourt attacking techniques, which reflect special features in singles including comprehensive skills, long rallies and varied tactics, are important means of scoring.Through literature searching, expert interviewing, video observing, data statistics and comparative analysis, we summarized and analyzed the techniques and tactics used by the world’s outstanding badminton singles players Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei in the six major men’s singles events during the year of 2009 to 2014.This paper mainly compares and analyzes therearcourt attacking technique characteristics of two players, summarizing their similarities, differences and respective patterns in the use of rearcourt attacking techniques, and exploring the changes and development trends of their techniques in recent years, aimed at providing valuable references to the development of Chinese badminton men’s singles techniques and tactics. Here are the results of our research:1) For both Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei, drop shot is the top one in usage rate among rearcourt attacking techniques (45% and 52%, respectively). Besides that, Lin frequently plays overhead wrist shots and sliced smashes, while it is preferable for Lee to play sliced smashes and hard smashes.2) Attacking clears and drop shots from the rearcourt, though frequently performed, are not the main methods by which players score directly; yet they are performed in combination to create chances for powerful smashes and a subsequent score.3) In the straight-line attacks from the rearcourt, both Lin and Lee have the highest rate of performing overhead wrist shots among rearcourt attacking techniques (71.1% and 57.2%, respectively), and the highest rate of scoring by sliced smashes (50.1% and 46.4%, respectively). In the central-line attacks, hard smash is at the top of both usage and scoring rate for two players. And in the cross-court attacks, two players have the highest usage rate of sliced smashes (64.3% and 74%, respectively), and the highest rate of scoring by hard smashes (23.5% and 17.2%, respectively).4) its overlapping analysis show that, lee’shot placement, and shot route are more variational than Lin’s. lee’s ability to run is better, has more means of shot change, and Lin’s attack strength is stronger.5) from the comprehensive analysis of the techniques in the backcourt shows that Lin belongs to the offensive player, while lee is better at running and defense. Their techniques are comprehensive, lee’s defensive ability is stronger, more adept and Lin Dan’s powerful offensive force is the magic weapon to win the competiton.
