Learning autonomy refers to the processes and ability that individual determine learning goals learning consciously, making study plan, choose learning methods, monitor learning process, evaluate learning results.This is not only one of the objectives of quality education, but also a necessary condition for the development of students’ creative ability and lifelong learning ability.The triple token-method is one of the unique way of thinking in chemistry. The application of triple token-method thinking in chemistry teaching process of junior middle school is to enable the students know well about chemistry learning strategies and ultimately improve the chemistry learning autonomy.Based on the background investigation of the rural middle school students, the study adopts the design of experiment group-control group former and back measure. The subjects were 220 rural junior middle school students in Anhua County of Hunan Province. Teaching process was executed based on the teaching plan designed trough triple token-method and problem solving strategy. Experiment was conducted for 30 teaching hours in two months. At the same time schedule supervision and homework tutoring was conducted after school. Students were tested through 1-5 chemistry unit tests, final test. Students’ learning autonomy former and back measure and chemistry homework attitude were recorded. All the data were analyzed by SPSS11.5.The results of this work show that:First, thinking training based on triple token-method could effectively improve the use of cognitive strategies which is one aspect of the students’ learning autonomy.Second, there is little difference in the autonomy level between the left-behind children and non left-behind children. The effect of the thinking training based on the triple token-method is not very significant.Third, there is difference in the autonomy level between girls and boys. But the effect of the thinking training based on the triple token-method is not very significant.In the initiation stage of chemistry, students’ self-efficacy could be improved through the students’ subject thinking training. Therefore the learning autonomy level and chemistry scores could be effectively enhanced.
