Since the 20th century, people have known the close relationship between language and culture. We cannot separate culture from language teaching. The purpose of learning a language is not just to know the structure and knowledge of language itself, but also to learn the background of that language---that is, the culture. In such a multicultural world, we must keep in mind that only we improve the ability of intercultural communication, can we make a successful communication with foreigners. The New National English Curriculum Standard has admired that cultural awareness is one of the teaching goals in English teaching, and the requirements of cultural teaching are listed on papers specifically. However, the current situation about culture teaching in senior high school is not that satisfactory. Besides, the local culture of learners which is also play an important role for English learning did not takes values. This thesis is purpose to survey the situation of culture teaching in senior high school of Guangxi province, and then to put forward some useful suggestions.The research intends to find out the answers to the following questions:1. How about the awareness of teachers and students in senior high schools to culture teaching? 2. What is the current situation about culture teaching? 3. What are the effect factors and relevant solutions of culture teaching? Both quantitative and qualitative researches are required to facilitate the research. In the quantitative research part, questionnaire was used to survey the overall recognition of senior high school students to culture teaching. And in the part of qualitative research, interview and classroom observation were organized to make a deeper analysis about culture teaching situation of English teachers.The major findings are listed as follows:(1) Both teachers and students are lacking the sense of cultural teaching, and most of students do not have the strong sense of culture awareness.(2) The culture teaching situation of senior high school is not that satisfactory, which from the parts of teaching materials, teaching methods, and teaching evaluations.(3) The influences of cultural teaching can be categorized into several parts, they are the pressure of college entrance examination, heavy teaching tasks of school, be short of teachers’ training and students’ autonomous learning.Based on the research, suggestions will be put forward on the basis of scientific language learning theories from the perspectives of perfecting teaching materials, creating teaching methods, and cultivating students’ habit of autonomous learning. It is hoped to make a deeper understanding of cultural teaching in senior high school and do help to improve the situation.
